We are now in the time/space of January 8th, 2022. I’m getting ready to set my attitude for this new day. I’m grateful for my health, my wealth, my family, and friends. Check. I will do my best to be kind to everyone I meet. Check. I will ignore anyone who attempts to make me feel their rage at (fill in the blank). Check. I think I’m ready to live this day. After all, it’s Bubble Bath Day, National English Toffee Day, National Joy Germ Day, National Man Watcher’s Day (for the ladies), Argyle Day and War on Poverty Day. The very cool one is Joy Germ Day which suggests that we infect everyone we meet with Joy by being positive and treating everyone with kindness. Now to history: On this day in 1598 Jews were expelled from Genoa, Italy. On this day in 1675 the 1st American corporation was charted. It was the NY Fishing Co. Did you know that 1835 was the only time in our history that the US national debt $0? This morning the National Debt is $29,702,589. 000,000. That’s almost $90,000 per citizen. In 1877 on this date Crazy Horse and his warriors fight their last battle with the United States Cavalry at Wolf Mountain in the Montana Territory. On this day in 1902 Francis G. Landon, a New York State assemblyman got a bill passed to criminalize men turning around on the street and “looking at a woman in that way”. Today I’m going to give you a quote from Charles Alexander Eastman who was the first Native American certified as a Doctor in America. He passed on this date in 1939. Mr. Eastman said, “The native American has been generally despised by his white conquerors for his poverty and simplicity. They forget, perhaps, that his religion forbade the accumulation of wealth and the enjoyment of luxury. It was the rule of his life to share the fruits of his skill and success with his less fortunate brothers to keep his spirit free from pride, cupidity, or envy.” Abide.
