June 29th, 2022 has arrived. It’s a fine day to be alive. I have everything I need to achieve a sense of happiness today. I am aware of the things that prevent happiness and avoid them. Let’s get started. Today we have a short list of events: Hug Holiday Day, National Almond Buttercrunch Day, National Camara Day, National Parchment Paper Day, and National Waffle Iron Day. Not a great list but the almond buttercrunch does sound interesting. On this day in 1613 Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London burnt down during a performance of “Henry VIII”. On this day in 1659 the Russians are defeated by the Ukrainian armies at the Battle of Konotop. It appears that there the Russians and Ukrainians have been fighting each other for some time. On this day in 1863 George Armstrong Custer was appointed Union Brigadier General at the age of 23. On the same day, Confederate General Robert Lee ordered his forces to concentrate near Gettysburg, PA. On this day in 1931 the temperature hit 131 degrees in Monticello Florida. Wow. Lucky that AC was invented in 1902. This is the day in 1956 that the US Federal Interstate Highway System Act was signed. America could do big things back then. The dead person for June 29th is Katharine Hepburn who died at the age of 96 in 2003. I’ll give you two quotes from this remarkable lady. She said, “Kindness is one of the greatest figs you can bestow upon another. If someone is in need, lend them a helping hand. Do not wait for a thank you” and “I have lived my life exactly as I wanted. I’ve tried to please no one but myself… but I’m entirely content. I can sit back in my old age and not regret a single moment, not wish to change a single thing. It’s what I wish for you… a life with no regrets.” Abide.
