We are now 1/3rd of the way through September 2020. It’s the 10 day of this month. Lots of activity going on in the Atlantic but too soon to tell if that means trouble. I’m expecting another typical late summer day of high 80s and scattered rain in the afternoon. If you ignore the politics (hard to do), this day could be a pleasant one to live. It’s Blame It on the Large Hadron Collider Day which is the largest particle accelerator on earth. It also happens to be the International Creepy Boston Dynamics Robotic Horse Day. How did we get two of these weird designations for the same day? The more normal ones are International Make UP Day, National Hot Dog Day (my pick), Sew Be It Day, TV Dinner Day, National Swap Ideas Day and World Suicide Prevention Day. How long has it been since you’ve eaten a Banquet TV Dinner? Now to what happened on this day and we start out with an ugly event. On this day in 1349 the Jews who survived a massacre in Constance Germany are burned to death. Being the scapegoat for every bad thing that happened in Europe during the middle ages, the Jews were blamed for the Black Death. This is the day in 1858 that John Holden hits 1st recorded HR (Brooklyn vs NY). In 1894 on this day London taxi driver George Smith is the first to be fined for drunk driving. This is the day in 1913 that the Lincoln Highway opens as 1st paved coast-to-coast highway. I-80 is now roughly where it was. Today is Arnold Palmer’s birthday. He said, “the more I practice, the luckier I get”. This is the day in 2006 that Patty Berg who won 15 major golf titles and the US Open in 1946 stops living. She said, “There is nothing in this game of golf that can’t be improved upon if you practice.” Practice seems to be the key to being good at something. That’s enough for today. Wear the damned mask and Abide.
