We’re now in the time/space of August 24 2020. It appears that Florida has dodged Marco and Laura. Louisiana won’t be so lucky. It’s that time of the year. The culprit is the water temp in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s in the high 80s from June through September and any storm that gets into the Gulf will have the energy to grow. The higher the temp, the greater the risk. Today is Can Opener Day, International Strange Music Day, National Knife Day, National Waffle Day, Shooting Star Day and my pick, Peach Pie Day. I wish one was on my agenda but probably not. It would be interesting to jump into the way back machine and go to Rome on this day in 410 when Rome is overrun by Visigoths for the first time in nearly 800 years and is considered to be the end of the Western Roman Empire. On this day in 1349 in Mainz Germany, Jews are blamed for the Plague and 6,000 are murdered. This is the day in 1858 that Richmond’s “Daily Dispatch” reported 90 blacks arrested for learning. It was a crime to teach blacks to read. Finally, on this day in 1932, Amelia Earhart is the first women to make a transcontinental non-stop. Today is the day in 1922 that Howard Zinn, American historian and activist was born. He said, “Historically, the most terrible things – war, genocide, and slavery – have resulted not from disobedience, but from obedience.” If you search on “Howard Zinn Quotes” you will find enlightenment. This is also the day that Byard Rustin died at the age of 75. He was a black civil rights leader and a Quaker. He said, “We are all one – and if we don’t know it, we will learn it the hard way.” Now you have things to ponder as you start your day. Enjoy the Chaos. Abide.
