August 27, 2020.  I’ve decided that today will be an excellent day.  One of the side benefits of writing this post every morning is searching among the dead for quotes.  The wisdom they’ve left behind is there for everyone, but few people take the opportunity to read what they’ve said, think about it and learn from it.  Here’s my recommendation:  Go to “Brainy Quotes”.  This site has a search box.  Type in “Happiness” and start reading.  Today’s Just Because Day, Forgive Your Foe Friday, Kiss Me Day, National Banana Lovers Day, National Pots de Crème Day (French dessert custard), Tarzan Day and World Rock Paper Scissors Day. Now to the history section of this post:  This date in 1789 the French National Assembly issued the “Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen”. If you read the highlights of it, you will know where our Bill of Rights came from. In 1859 on this day, the 1st successful oil well was drilled near Titusville, Pennsylvania. On this day in 1883, the Krakatoa volcano erupted with a force of 1,300 megatons and killed approximately 40,000 people. On this day in 1918 the Spanish Flu arrived in Boston, beginning the second and deadliest wave in the US. The “Spanish Flu’ didn’t start in Spain. It began in a small military camp near Liberal Kansas in 1917 and was transported to Europe by American soldiers fighting in WWI. Now let’s hear from the dead.  Today is the birthday of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel who was a German philosopher.  He said, “The more certain our knowledge, the less we know”.  This is also the birthday of Lyndon B. Johnson who, in my opinion, was the most powerful President in my lifetime.  Lyndon said, “Better to have him inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in”.  I never said all the quotes I enjoy are serious.  Decide to have a good day.  Abide
