It is July 20, 2023. This is my 28,538th day of life. Most people don’t get to live this long. Most people don’t get to live this well. I’m grateful everyday for the opportunity to live my life. One of the primary reasons I write this post everyday is to remind myself. Today is Get to Know Your customers Day, International Chess Day, Moon Day, Nap Day (I will celebrate this one), National fortune Cookie Day, National Lollipop Day, National Ugly Truck Contest Day, and Jump Day. Now let’s review some historical footnotes about our ancestors. On this day in 1402 the Battle of Ankara took place. The army of Tamerlane had armor-plated elephants which they used to defeat the forces of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I. On tis day in 1712 the Riot Act went into effect in Great Britan which allowed officials to declare that any assembly of 12 persons or more who were “unlawfully, riotously, and tumultuously assembled” could be dispersed. On this day in 1858 a fee was 1st charged to see a baseball game. The fee was 50 cents, and the game was New York 22 against Brooklyn 18. On this day in 1881 Sioux Indian Chief Sitting bull surrendered to federal troops. On this day in 1933 two hundred Jewish merchants are arrested in Nuremberg Germany and paraded through the streets. On the same day in London 500,000 march against anti-Semitism. On this day in 1944 FDR was nominated for a 4th term at the Democratic convention. On this day in 1965 Bob Dylan’s single “Like a Rolling Stone” was released. This is the day in 1969 that the Apollo 11 lunar module carrying Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. Today’s dead person was the White House journalist Helen Thomas who died on this day in 2013 at the age of 92. Helen said, “Life is too short to drink the house wine.” “You cannot have a democracy without an informed people.” “You don’t spread democracy through the barrel of a gun.” “I think I’ll work all my life. When You’re having fun, why stop having fun?” last one: “I’m a liberal, I was born a liberal, and I will be a liberal ‘til the day I die.” Helen was one of my favorites. Abide
