The Sun is getting ready to make its grand entrance on October 5th, 2021. It’s a day of second chances filled with new opportunities to be a better person. Or it’s just another day to be taken for granted. It all depends on what you want it to be. You decide what your own reality is going to be on this day. I’m going to look in a mirror and give myself a high 5 (search on “Mel Robbins high 5”) and create a good day for me. Why, because it’s Do Something Nice Day, Global James Bond Day, World Teacher Day, National Get Funky Day, and National Apple Betty Day (yum). Now to our daily history lesson. On this day in 1789 the women of Paris marched to confront Louis XVI about his refusal to abolition of feudalism, demand bread, and have the King and his court moved to Paris. Several people were killed, the palace was looted by a mob of over 10,000. In 1864 on this day the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought and over 1,500 were killed. On the same day a cyclone hit Calcutta and approximately 60,000 people died. This is the day in 1892 that the Dalton Gang was killed in a shoot-out in Coffeyville, Kansas during an attempted bank holdup. On this day in 1947 President Harry Truman made the 1st address from the White House on television. Today is Denis Diderot’s birthday. He was a French philosopher, art critic and writer born in 1713. Denis said, “There is only one virtue: justice. Only one duty: to be happy. Only one corollary: not to overvalue life and not to fear death”. You may have to think about that quote. He also said, “Happiest are the people who give the most happiness to others.” This is the day in 2015 that Grace Lee Boggs who was an author, social activist and philosopher from Detroit stopped living. She said, “You don’t choose the times you live in, but you do choose who you want to be”. May you have as good a day as me. Abide.
