April 15, 2022. It will be a good day for me and you but not for everyone. Over 800 million of us will go to bed this coming night hungry. Millions are refugees running from deadly circumstance. Over 200,000 Americans will sleep on the streets and in their cars tonight. But you and me will be fine. Be grateful. We’re the lucky ones. April 15 is Good Friday, Jackie Robinson Day, MacDonald’s Day, National Spiral Sliced Ham Day, Take A Wild Guess Day, National Rubber Eraser Day, Titanic Remembrance Day and National That Sucks Day. Now to the “what happened” part of the post. This is the day in 1528 that Panfilo the Narvaez, a Spanish conquistador arrived in Florida with a force of 350 men. Only 4 men would survive. On this day in 1850, San Francisco was incorporated. In 1861 the Federal army (75,000 volunteers) was mobilized by US President Abraham Lincoln to fight the Civil War. On this day in 1878 Harley Procter introduced Ivory Soap. This is the day in 1923 that insulin became generally available for diabetics. On this day in 1947 Jackie Robinson became the 1st African American to play in the major leagues. On this day we celebrate the birthday of Leonardo de Vinci who was born in 1452. Here are some of his observations: “Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works.” “I am not poor. Poor are those who desire many things.” “You don’t get into trouble because of the things you don’t know. It is the things you don’t know you don’t know that really get you into a mess.” Now I’m ready for this new day. Abide.
