In a couple of hours, the sun will rise on April 21st, 2022. I will make some memories today. I’ll be out of my rut, on the road to Panama City Beach for a long weekend of friends, adult beverages and trop rock music. Life is good. Today has some interesting events. It’s Big Word Day. I may be suffering from Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia which is the fear of big words. I’m not making this up. It is also Bulldogs are Beautiful Day, Keep Off the Grass Day, San Jacinto Day (last battle of the Texas Revolution), National Tea Day, National High Five Day, and National Chocolate-Covered Cashews Day. Now, part 2: History. On this day in 753 BC Romulus and Remus found Rome. On this day in 1649 Maryland Toleration Act passed allowing freedom of worship for Christians but sentencing to death anyone who rejected the divinity of Jesus. In 1855, the 1st train crossed the Mississippi River’s on the 1st bridge which spans the Mississippi River between Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa. On this day in 1918 the Red Barron, Manfred Von Richthofen was shot down and killed by Canadian pilot Roy Brown. Manfred had 63 confirmed kills. He said, “Fight on and fly on to the last drop of blood and the last drop of fuel. to the last beat of your heart.” I guess he did it his way. This is also the day in 1910 that Samuel Langhome Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, died. I’ll wrap this post up with some of his quotes: “Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason.” “Give every day the chance to become the most beautiful day of your life.” “It’s better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right.” “Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably and never regret ANYTHING that makes you smile.” Abide.
