December 10th, 2021 has arrived. I found out something I didn’t know yesterday and today I’m going to share it with you: Question: how many cells does a human being have? Answer: 37.2 trillion. Question #2: How many atoms does each human cell contain? Answer: The average cell contains 100 trillion atoms. Now you know how complex, unique, and wonderful you are. Today is Dewey Decimal System Day, Human Rights Day, Nobel Prize Day National Salesperson’s Day, Official Lost And Found Day and National Lager Day. I will celebrate today with a cold beer. Now to the history of today: In 1690 the Massachusetts Bay became the first colonial government to issue paper money. In 1864 General Sherman’s armies reached Savannah and a 12-day siege began. This is a quote from William Tecumseh Sherman: ” War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.” In 1884 “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain was first published. In 1936 Edward VIII signed Instrument of Abdication, giving up the British throne to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. On this day in 1964 Nobel Peace Prize was presented to Dr Martin Luther King Jr. in Oslo. Today is Emily Dickinson’s birthday. Born in 1830, her she wasn’t well know during her lifetime but over time is now regarded as one of America’s greatest poets. Here are a few quotes from Emily: “We turn not older with years but newer each day.” “If you take care of the small things, the big things take care of themselves.” And, “Good times are always mutual; that is what makes them good times.” This is the day in 1936 that the Nobel Prize winning author and poet Luigi Pirandello (Italian) died. I’ll end with this quote from him: “Whatever is a reality today, whatever you touch and believe in and that seems real for you today, is going to be – like the reality of yesterday – an illusion tomorrow.” Something to think about.
