This day is called October 24, 2022. Today I will start by reminding you that you should be grateful. You get to experience life and you’re better off than billions of people who also inhabit this planet. Then we will see what special events are celebrated today. Next, we will look at some history to demonstrate that chaos is the normal state of mankind, and we will end up with some wisdom dispensed by dead people. Life is good. Enjoy it while you can. Today is 40-Hour Work Week Day, Black Thursday, Food Day, National Bologna Day, Take Back Your Time Day, United National Day, Good And Plenty Day, and World Tripe Day. Have you ever eaten tripe? I have. Not a fan. Now some history: On this day in 1492 24 Jews were burned at the stake for “stabbing a consecrated wafer”? On this day in 1861 West Virginia seceded from Virginia. On this day in 1871 a mob in Los Angeles hanged 18 Chinese. The Cities eaders were embarrassed into building a Police Department to stop the violence. 8 people were tried and then released. This is the day in 1901 that Anna Taylor became the first women to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. This is the day in 1926 that Harry Houdini did his last performance at the Garrick Theatre in Detroit. MI. This is the day in 1929 of the stock market crash known as “Black Thursday”.   On this day in 1946 a camera on board a V-2 rocket takes the 1st photograph of earth from space. Today’s dead person is Stephen Covey who wrote “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. Here are a few of his observations and suggestions: “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” “We immediately become more effective when we decide to change ourselves rather than asking things to change for us.” Last one: “Free your heart from hatred – forgive. Free your mind from worries – most never happen. Live simply and appreciate what you have. Give more. Expect less.”  I’ll now start living this day. Abide.
