This is August 15, 2023. Over the years I’ve spent writing this post, I realize that I’ve formed new habits in the process. A habit is an involuntary mode of behavior. I think differently now. I’m less angry because I don’t dwell on the negative aspects of life. Reading the quotes of stoic philosophers is transformative, at least for me. Moving on. Today is Chant at the Moon Day, I Love Cowboys and Cowgirls Day, Lemon Meringue Pie Day, Mom’s Equal Pay Day, National Best Friends Day, and National Relaxation Day. I’ll go with pie any day! Now some history: On this day in 1620 the Mayflower set sail from Southampton, England with 102 Pilgrims. On this day in 1824 freed American slaves established Liberia on the West African coast. This is the day in 1876 that US Law removed Indians from the Black Hills after gold was discovered. In 1911 on this day Procter & Gamble unveiled Crisco shorting. On this day in 1914 the Taliesian Massacre took place in Spring Green, Wisconsin when Julian Carlton, a disgruntled employee, killed Frank Lloyd Wright’s mistress (Martha Borthwick), her 2 children and 4 others and burned the architect’s home to the ground. Wright was away on business that day. This is the day in 1939 that the Wizard of Oz premiered. In 1969 on this day Woodstock Festival opened in Bethel, New York. This is the day Will Rogers died in 1935 at the age of 55. Will said, “I know worrying works, because none of the stuff I worried about ever happened.” “Ignorance lies not in the things you don’t know, but in the things you know that ain’t so.” “Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.” “The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.” I’ll end with “If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went.” Abide.
