April 5th, 2022. It’s a fine day is you were rooting for Kansas last night. I do love March Madness. Today is First Contact Day, Bell Bottoms Day, National Dandelion Day, Deep Dish Pizza Day, Go for Broke Day, Sweet Potato Day. National Caramel Day, and National Raisin and Spice Bar Day. Now let’s talk history: On this day in 456, St. Patrick returned to Ireland as a missionary bishop. In 1792 George Washington cast the 1st presidential veto. There was a bill to add seats to the Northern States representation. George vetoed the bill because he could see where this would end up and he and Franklin came up with the rule that there should be 1 representative for 33,000 citizens. Today the number has grown to approximately 733,000. In 1923 the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company started producing inflatable tires. Finally, on this day in 1969 there were massive anti-Vietnam War demonstrations across America. I didn’t participate because I was in Vietnam at the time. Today we will appreciate the wisdom of the poet and writer, Allen Ginsberg who died on this day in 1997. Allen said, “You are what you think about all day” and “Whoever controls the media, the images, controls the culture.” This is also the day that Howard Hughes stopped living in 1976. I’ll end this post with two of his quotes. Howard said, “I intend to be, the richest man in the world” and “Money can’t buy happiness.” That’s enough for this day. Abide.
