Today is the 29th day of June 2021. I checked the National Hurricane Center and found a yellow X has popped up in the Atlantic headed for Cuba and beyond. This is where hurricanes are born. Outside of that, a typical day in Florida: sun in the morning, rain in the afternoon . Today the list is short: It’s the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Hug Holiday Day, National Camera Day, National Waffle Iron Day and National Almond Buttercrunch Day. I’ve never eaten an almond buttercrunch but it sounds good. This is the day in 1072 that Former Byzantine Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes was blinded by rivals and exiled. Wow. On this day in 1863 Confederate General Robert Lee ordered his forces to concentrate near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. If you’ve never been there, you’ve missed something. This is the day in 1956 that the US Federal interstate highway system act was signed into law. This is also the day in 1964 that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed after an 83-day filibuster in the US Senate. Finally, for all of the ukulele players, this is the day in 1968 that “Tip-Toe Thru’ The Tulips With Me” by Tiny Tim peaked at #17. This is the day in 2003 that Katharine Hepburn’s life ended at 96.
