We are now in the time/space of the 12th day of September 2021. Humanity remains in a state of chaos (normal) and I’m not (also, normal). In my small, tiny corner of the universe, all is well. Dada Vaswani, an Indian spiritual leader said, “True happiness is an inner quality. It is a state of mind. If your mind is at peace, you are happy”. That’s a good description of where I’m at. Hope you’re there too. The Commission has a long list of things we can celebrate: National Day Of Encouragement, National Police Women Day, Day Of The Homeland (if you are Germany), National Hug A Hound Day, Grandparents Day, and my pick, National Chocolate Milkshake Day. Now to the history lesson for today: This is the day in 490 BC that the Battle of Marathon was fought. On this day in 1755 Giacomo Casanova is sentenced to 5 years imprisonment in Venice without trial for affront to religion and common decency which means, he slept with the wrong wife. On this day in 1928 and hurricane hits Florida and kills 6,000. This is the day in 1958 that the US Supreme Court orders the all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas to integrate. The 101st Airborne Division would escort the 9 black students into the school. Today is J.L. Mencken’s birthday. He was a newspaperman, critic, and satirist. It’s worth a few minutes to search on his quotes and read through them. Here’s one that’s relevant now: “The demagogue is one who preaches doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots.” A good example of that are the personalities who have been vaccinated encouraging their followers to refuse to be vaccinated. Nothing I can do about that so I’m not going to waste my time worrying about that. I’ll end this post with one more quote from Dada Vaswani, “Rich or poor, saint or sinner, miser or philanthropist, learned or illiterate, this is the Universal Law that applies to individuals, to whole communities, societies, nations and races: As we sow, so shall we reap.” Dada is talking about Karma. So, today you might want to sow some kindness. I’ll try. Abide.
