Today is January 5th, 2021. We are one day closer to being back to normal. We don’t know how many days lie in front of us but we do know that “normal” will arrive. The sooner the better. I’ve got people to see and hug and places to go. Parties to throw and parties to go to. The comedian and philosopher Ron White said, “I believe that if life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade… And try to find somebody whose life has given them vodka, and have a party.” Words to live by. Today is National Screenwriters Day, National Bird Day, National Whipped Cream Day and National Keto Day. I’ve written a script for a film which was made (decades ago), I feed a family of bright red and brown cardinals every day, we use whipped cream all the time and try and eat less carbs. Sounds like my kind of day. Now down memory lane: In 1709 The Great Frost, a sudden cold front hits Europe. Thousands die across the continent and crops fail in France. This was thought to be caused by a lack of sunspot activity. In 1840 official records listed 95,820 licensed public houses in England. A “public house” is another name for a bar. In 1886 the “Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson is published. One of his quotes “Everybody, soon or late, sits down to a banquet of consequences.” In 1914 Ford Motor Co wages jump from $2.40/9-hr day to $5.00/8-hr day. This was a huge. Now the people who worked at Ford could afford to buy what they built. This is the birthday of King Gillette who invented the safety razor. Here’s one of his quotes: “There are two kinds of men who never amount to much: those who cannot do what they are told and those who can do nothing else.” I like that one. This is also the day in 1939 that Amelia Earhart is declared dead. Here’s a quote from her: ” Never interrupt someone doing what you said couldn’t be done.” I like that one too. That’s enough for this 5th day of 2021. Stay safe and be sure to Abide.
