The earth has now entered an area of space designated as April 11, 2020. We’ve never been here before. As our Galaxy expands, we’re always moving into new space. We, and by that I mean me, tend to forget we exist on a ball of rock flying though space protected by a thin layer of atmosphere. i like to remind myself of that periodically. On this day we can all celebrate International Louie Louie Day, National Cheese Fondue Day, National Pet Day, National Poutine Day and Submarine Day, or as I like to think of it, Dave Walls Day. I’ll celebrate Louie Louie. What a great timeless rock and roll song. The Submarine gets a day because in 1900 on this date, the first modern submarine is purchased by the U.S. Navy. In 1912 the Titanic leaves Queenstown, Ireland, for NY. In a few days I’ll report the sinking. In 1961 the trial of Adolf Eichmann for war crimes begins. I remember following the trial and beginning to understand what evil really was. Finally, in 1968 US President Lyndon B. Johnson signs 1968 Civil Rights Act. He said, “Until justice is blind to color, until education is unaware of race, until opportunity is unconcerned with the color of men’s skins, emancipation will be a proclamation but not a fact.” He may have been the most powerful president in my lifetime. This is the birthday (1930) of Anton LaVey who is the founder of the Church of Satan. Who knew? He said, “Definition of Good and Evil: Good is what you like. Evil is what you don’t like.” Makes sense to me. This is the day in 2007 that Kurt Vonnegut Jr, American author, dies at 84. He said, “True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.” That’s enough for this day. Stay safe, we’re not out of these woods yet. Abide.
