We’ve arrived at milepost 07.24.2020. Tropical depressions are starting to line up in the Atlantic much like airplanes stacking up to land in Orlando. Eventually another one is going to turn into a hurricane and cause some problems somewhere. Such is life in Florida. I’m not going to worry about something that’s a few days/weeks in the future. I’m going to focus on today because that’s where I’m at. On this Friday it’s Amelia Earhart Day because this is the day she was born in Atchison, Kansas. It’s also Cousins Day, Drive Thur Day, National Tell an Old Joke Day, Pioneer Day and National Tequila Day which is the obvious pick for a Friday during a pandemic. This is the day in 1701 that Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac founds a trading post at Fort Pontchartrain which later becomes the city of Detroit. This is the day in 1847 that Brigham Young and his Mormon followers arrive at Salt Lake City, Utah. On this day in 1911 American explorer Hiram Bingham discovers Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. And, this is the day in 1965 that Bob Dylan releases “Like a Rolling Stone”. Since I’ve already mentioned that it is Amelia Earhart’s birthday, here’s a quote from her, “Never interrupt someone doing what you said couldn’t be done.” This is also the day that Martin Van Buren, 8th US President (1837-41), dies of heart failure at 79. He said, “As to the presidency, the two happiest days of my life were those of my entrance upon the office and my surrender of it.” Being President must be a little like owning a boat. That is enough for this day. Be sure to Abide and here’s a litte Dylan to start your day.
