It’s April 24th, 2020. We are nearing the time when the fear of the collapse of our economy exceeds the fear of the virus. This is not a good place to be but here we are never the less. In times like this, we do the best we can. We will have new opportunities when the sun rises on tomorrow. It’s today and that means its National Hairball Awareness Day. I didn’t make that up. It’s also National Pigs-in-a-Blanket Day, National Arbor Day and Silence Day which is a day of awareness about the bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning students. I would rather call it the National If You Can’t Say Something Nice Than Shut Up Day. Now the historical footnotes: This is the day in 1184 BC that the Greeks entered Troy using the Trojan Horse. In 1704 the “Boston News-Letter” the 1st successful newspaper in US is formed. On this day in 1909 Harry Hillman and Lawson Robertson run 100m 3-legged race in 11 seconds. Wow. Finally, on this day in 1969 Paul McCartney says there is no truth to rumors he is dead. Big deal in the entertainment section of the newspaper. Today is Shirley MacLaine’s birthday (1934). She said, “The best way to get husbands to do something is to suggest that perhaps they are too old to do it.” In 1731 on this date Daniel Defoe, the author of Robins Crusoe died at the age of 70.
