It’s March 24th, 2021. What a magnificent day to be alive. Everything may not go perfectly well today, doesn’t matter. You get to live it along with the rest of humanity that managed to make it here. Pretty special. I’m grateful that I’m one of them. You can also celebrate National Cheesesteak Day, National Chocolate Covered Raisins Day, Equal Pay Day, International Day Of Achievers and (drum roll) National Cocktail Day! Since I’m an Ordained Priest of the Latter Day Church of the Dude, I think sometime later today I’ll raise a White Russian to celebrate today. Now to the interesting footnotes of history. On this day in 1832, Mormon leader Joseph Smith was beaten, tarred & feathered in Ohio. That kept him moving West. In 1906 the “Census of the British Empire” showed that Great Britain ruled 1/5th of the world. In 1930 on this date, the 1st religious services were telecast in the US. On this day in 1942 the US government began moving native-born citizens with Japanese ancestry into detention centers under Executive Order 9066, with the intention of preventing home-grown espionage. Finally, in 1958 Elvis Presley joined the army on this day. This is the birthday (1884) of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle who was a silent film actor and comedian who said, “I don’t believe there is any finer mission on earth than to just make people laugh”. I think he knew his purpose in life. This is the day the world lost Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. His quotes are worth reading. Here’s a couple: “If you would hit the mark, you must aim a little above it.” “The sky is filled with stars, invisible by day.” And, “People demand freedom only when they have no power.” Think about that last one for a minute. It will change your perception of the world. That’s enough heavy thinking for this post. Stay safe, be smart and Abide.
