We’ve now moved into the time/space of November 5, 2020. A last of the season hurricane might hit Florida, the pandemic is out of control, between 30 and 40 million of our fellow citizens are facing eviction and our election is nearly decided. The song “Don’t worry, be happy” comes to mind. There’s also the quote “Don’t let yesterday take too much of today”. My point is that we are surrounded by chaos but have the ability to ignore it and pursue happiness. That’s my plan. It’s National Doughnut Appreciation Day, American Football Day, National Gun Powder Day, National Love Your Red Hair Day, National Men Make Dinner Day and National Stout Day. I think I’ll go for the stout and have that bottle of Guinness that has been sitting in my fridge. This is the day in 1605 that Catholic conspirator Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up King James I and the British Parliament. Plot discovered, Guy Fawkes caught, tortured and later executed along with seven others. Celebrated ever since as Guy Fawkes Day, where his effigy is traditionally burned on a bonfire, accompanied by fireworks. In 1916 on this day the Everett Massacre takes place in Everett, Washington as political differences lead to a shoot-out between IWW (International Workers of the World) organizers and local police. You might want to google it and read about it. Very interesting. This is the day in 1935 that Parker Brothers first sold the game “Monopoly”. This is the historian Will Durant’s birthday (1885). Will said, “Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.” He also said “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” And one more: “Most of us spend too much time on the last twenty-four hours and too little on the last six thousand years.” That’s a wrap. Have as good a day as is possible. It’s all up to you. Abide
