It is the 8th day of November 2021. Yesterday I discovered the philosopher Albert Camus who said “Life is meaningless”. That quote has been rolling around inside my head for the last 24 hours. I agree with him. In a hundred years, nobody is going to care what you did or didn’t do. In a million years, there won’t be anyone who knows that humans once existed on this small rock we live on. So, what’s the point in living? The answer is: to have fun. To be happy. To enjoy this opportunity called life. What other purpose could there possible be? Today is Abet And Aid Punster Day (What was Forrest Gump’s email password? 1forrest1), Cook Something Bold Day, National Cappuccino Day, National Dunce Day and my pick, National Harvey Wallbanger Day (vodka, Galliano liqueur, and orange juice). Now to the history of this day. In 1519 on this day was the 1st meeting of Aztec Emperor Moctezuma II and Spanish Conquistador Hernán Cortés in Tenochtitlan, Mexico. This was the beginning of the end of the Aztec empire. On this day in 1731 In Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin opened the 1st library in the colonies. This is the day in 1798 Irish revolutionary Wolfe Tone was sentenced to death by hanging for his part in the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Tone requested to be shot instead so he could die a soldier’s death. As an aside, the Wolfe Tones is the name of a popular Irish band that plays rebellion songs. On this day in 1932 amidst the Great Depression, Democrat candidate Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected President of the United States, defeating Republican incumbent Herbert Hoover. On this day in 1970, Napoleon Hill’s life ended. He the person who wrote the book “Think and grow rich”. Here are a couple of his observations: “Fear is a habit, so is self-pity, defeat, anxiety, despair, hopelessness and resignation. You can eliminate all of these negative habits with two simple resolves: I can and I will.” And “You will attract to yourself people who harmonize with your own philosophy of life, whether you wish it or not.” Decide to have a great day. Abide.
