It’s now the 30th day of March in the year 2020. Only 1 more day to go in the worst March of my lifetime. Then we will slide into the worst April of my lifetime. There is a bright side, I’m virus free, so far. My brother just finished reading a book on Stalingrad during WWII and his comment was, “we don’t have it so bad”. That’s true. Life could be a lot worse. After all, today is Grass is Always Browner on the Other Side of the Fence Day, National Doctors Day, National I am in Control Day, Virtual Vacation Day and Turkey Neck Soup Day. I’d like to take a virtual vacation but instead, I will celebrate the Doctors who are putting themselves at risk to help sick people. Now to the footnotes of this days history. In 1822, Congress combines East & West Florida into Florida Territory. I didn’t know there were two Florida territories. In 1867 the Alaska Purchase is made when the US buys Alaska from Russia for $7,200,000, roughly 2 cents an acre. Finally, in 1959 on this date, the Dalai Lama flees China and is granted political asylum in India. One of the most quoted people of today is the Dalai Lama. He’s another one, “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” This is the birthday (1853) of Vincent Van Gogh. He said, “I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process.” This is the day that John Ciardi passed in 1986 at the age of 69. He was a poet. He said, ” There is nothing wrong with sobriety in moderation.” I agree with John. So there you have my post for today. I’ll be back with another one in less than 24 hours. Wash your hands, avoid everyone and Abide.
