The earth will rotate Florida into the light from our sun in a few minutes (another way of saying it’s almost sunrise). We are now in the time space designated as November 19th, 2019. Clear skies and temperatures in the upper 60s this afternoon. Winter in Florida is special. Lots of holidays to consider: National Blow Bagpipes Day, International Men’s Day, National Entrepreneurs’ Day, National Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day, World Toilet Day and Play Monopoly Day. The Toilet day is about sanitation and about half the people in the world don’t have much of it. Glad I do. I think I’ll celebrate a carbonated beverage with a wee bit of rum. That’s my plan. Now let us see what happened on this date in history: In 1861, Julia Ward Howe committed “Battle Hymn of the Republic” to paper. This is the day in 1863 that Abraham Lincoln delivers his Gettysburg address. If you’ve never been to Gettysburg and taken a personal tour, you should add it to your bucket list. In 1895, Frederick E. Blaisdell patents the pencil. In 1959 “Rocky & His Friends” debuts on ABC. My favorite cartoon show. And, in 1975 “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is released (Academy Awards Best Picture 1976). One of my favorite movies of all time. This is Larry King’s birthday. He said “I’m 80 years old, and I don’t know what I’m going to be when I grow up.” I don’t know either. This is also the day that Emma Lazarus assumed room temperature. You don’t recognize her name but you do know here words: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Now I hope you have a better appreciation for what November 19th represents. It’s also a blank page waiting for you to paint your own picture on it. Make it a good one. Abide
