The milepost reads 08.22.2021. I’m happy to be able to travel this section of time/space. Writing this post every morning reminds me of how lucky I am. It puts me in a grateful attitude. And in the words of Will Arnett, “I am happy because I’m grateful. I choose to be grateful. That gratitude allows me to be happy.Today is Be an Angel Day, National Bao Day, National Eat a Peach Day, Southern Hemisphere Hoodie Hoo Day, National Tooth Fairy Day and National Pecan Torte Day, which is close to Ice Cream. Good enough for me. Now to the history of this day. In 1791 on this day the Haitian Slave Revolution began led by Voodoo priest Dutty Boukman. He was captured in Senagal, enslaved, and transported to Jamaica, eventually ended up in Haiti, where he became a leader of the Maroons and a Voodoo priest. After the revolt got underway, he was captured and killed by the French who displayed his head to prove he wasn’t invincible. Wow. On this day in The United States annexed New Mexico. This is the day in 1902 US President Theodore Roosevelt became 1st US chief executive to ride in a car. And, this is the day in 1966 that the Beatles arrived in New York City. Today Dorothy Parker’s birthday (1893). Dorothy was a was a poet, writer, critic, and satirist. She is the person that said “ I like to have a martini. Two at the very most. After three I’m under the table. After four I’m under my host.” She also advised that “The best way to avoid a hangover is to stay drunk”. One final quote from Ms. Parker to demonstrate her attitude “ Now I know the things I know, and I do the things I do; and if you do not like me so, to hell, my love, with you! What fun she would have been to spend an afternoon with. That’s enough for this post. I’m off to have an excellent, fun filled day with friends, some wine and some music. Life is indeed good. Abide.
