This brand new, never used, one and only day is named March 8, 2022. In a few hours it will join the 4.54 billion years and become part of Earth’s past. While it’s here, I intend to make good use of it. There’s happiness in it and it’s yours for the taking. 03/08 is Girls Write Now Day, International Women’s Day, National Proofreading Day, National Be Nasty Day (don’t do it), National Proofreading Day, Unique Names Day, and National Peanut Cluster Day. Onto the history of this day. On this day in 1782, the Pennsylvania militia massacred 96 Christian Delaware Indians who were living peacefully with the settlers Gnadenhutten Ohio. It seems that Indians had attacked a white settlement. It wasn’t these Indians. On this day in 1817 the New York Stock Exchange was founded. This is the day in 1861 that St Augustine Florida surrendered to the Union Army. This is the day in 1913 that the Internal Revenue Service began to levy and collect income taxes. On this day in 1934 Edwin Hubble produced a photo that shows as many galaxies as the Milky Way has stars. Finally, in 1948 on this day the US Supreme Court rules that religious instruction in public schools was unconstitutional. Today we visit the grave of Norton Juster who died on this day last year. Norton was an author of children’s books. He said, “Every sunrise gives you a new beginning and a new ending. Let this morning be a new beginning to a better relationship and a new ending to the bad memories. Its an opportunity to enjoy life, breathe freely, think and love. Be grateful for this beautiful day.” Abide.
