Welcome to August 25^th, 2022. For some this may be a very special day and others a day of sadness. It depends on your circumstances. For me, it’s another day filled with opportunity, just like yesterday and hopefully, tomorrow. After having lived 28,209 days, it’s difficult to get excited about this one. I’m going to try, as I always do. Today we have a fine list of celebratory events to consider: It’s Kiss and Make Up Day, National Second -hand Wardrobe Day, National Park Service Founders Day, Thoughtful Thursday, National Banana Split Day, National Burger Day, and National Whiskey Sour Day. It looks like hamburger will be tonight’s dinner. Now let’s find out what mischief our ancestors got into on this date. On this day in 1609 Galileo demonstrated his 1^st telescope to the Venetian lawmakers. This is the day in 1718 that hundreds of French colonists arrived in Louisiana and founded New Orleans. This is the day in 1875 that Captain Matthew Webb made the 1^st observed and unassisted swim across the English Channel. It took him 21 hours and 45 minutes. On this day in 1910 the Yellow Cab Company was founded. On this day in 1919 the first scheduled passenger service by airplane was established. It was Paris to London. On this day in 1958 Momofuku Ando sold his 1^st package of Ramen noodles. The German philosopher and cultural critic, Friedrich Nietzsche died on this day in 1900. One of the web sites I use has over 2,400 quotes from him.
