We find ourselves in the time/space of July 17, 2020. Once in a while it’s good to remind ourselves that we, and by that I mean the earth, is flying though space at 67,000 miles per hour while spinning at 1,000 miles an hour at our equator. But also remember you can get a ticket for going over 30 miles an hour on some streets. Everything is relative. Today our list is short: National Tattoo Day, World Day for International Justice, World Emoji Day 😁, Wrong Way Corrigan Day, Yellow Pigs Day and National Peach Ice Cream Day. The yellow pigs day has something to do with the number 17 and a couple of math students at Princeton. I’ll go with the peach ice cream. The 17th is the day in 1861 that the US Congress authorizes paper money. On this day in 1918 the Romanov royal family are executed by a Bolshevik firing squad in the basement of Ipatiev House, in Yekaterinburg, Siberia. This is the day in 1938 that Douglas “Wrong Way” Corrigan leaves NY flying for LA, winds up in Ireland supposedly by mistake. In 1917 and this day, Phyllis Diller, American comedienne and actress began her life. Phyllis said, “Burt Reynolds once asked me out. I was in his room.” She also said, “Housework can’t kill you but why take the chance?”. This is also the day in 2009 Walter Cronkite, American broadcast journalist and news anchor drew his last breath at the age of 92. Walter said, “Objective journalism and an opinion column are about as similar as the Bible and Playboy magazine.” I think we need more journalism and less opinion but that’s just me. As Porky Pig often said, “That’s all folks”. Be sure to Abide.
