It is now the 9th day of December, 2019. So far, so good. I’m anticipating a better than average day. Nothing new there. I always start my day with high expectations. It’s a little like I play golf. I’m always the most confident standing on the first tee before I take my first swing. I this day fully planned. Since I’m now retired, having three things on my to do list is a full day. Works for me. The Commission has declared the following events are special today: Christmas Card Day, Green Monday, International Anti-Corruption Day, World Techno Day, National Pastry Day, National Llama Day and Weary Willie Day. Weary Willie is the sad faced clown played by Emmett Kelly. Green Monday is supposed to be the best sales day of the year. I’ll select Pastry. Now to history: In 1793 Noah Webster establishes New York’s 1st daily newspaper, the “American Minerva”. In 1878, Joseph Pulitzer buys St Louis Dispatch for $2,500. Here’s a good quote from Pulitzer “We all want prosperity, but not at the expense of liberty. Poverty is not as great a danger to liberty as is wealth, with its corrupting, demoralizing influences. Let us never have a Government at Washington owing its retention to the power of the millionaires rather than to the will of millions.” In 1926 the USGA legalizes steel shaft golf clubs. In 1941 Adolf Hitler orders US ships to be torpedoed. In 1953, General Electric announces all Communist employees will be fired. Finally in 1967 Jim Morrison arrested on stage for disturbing the peace at the New Haven Arena, Connecticut, making him the 1st rock star to be taken into custody during a performance. He said, “There are things known and things unknown and in between are the doors.” If you want to jump in the way back machine, below is the Doors in 1968. To fully enjoy the trip, I think you have to be on one. Abide
