This day is named the 23rd day of June. I probably won’t create a memory today because I’m not planning to do something spectacular but I do have a plan to produce happiness. Happiness isn’t euphoria or jubilation. It’s more of a feeling of satisfaction and contentment. That’s what I’m pursuing today. June 23rd is Let It Go Day, National Hydration Day, National Pecan Sandies Day, Pink Flamingo Day, Public Service Day and National Pink Day. My pick of this litter is Let It Go Day. Holding onto negative thoughts and petty grievances won’t help you find happiness. Now to the historical footnotes about this day. In 1713 the French residents of Acadia were given one year to declare allegiance to Britain or leave Nova Scotia. Most didn’t and they ended up in Louisiana. Laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll). In 1888 on this day, Fredrick Douglas was the first African American to be nominated for Vice President. On this day in 1922 Walter Hagen became the first American-born winner of the British Open Championship. This is the day in 1960 that the 1st contraceptive pill was made available for purchase in the U.S. And, this is the day in 1981 that the longest game in Professional Baseball was played between the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings which took 33 innings. On this day in 1995 Jonas Salk, American biologist who created the Polio vaccine, died of heart failure at 80. This is the person who ended the nightmare of Polio and he gave the cure away. Very cool guy who said “What is important is that we – number one: Learn to live with each other. Number two: try to bring out the best in each other.” Good advice from Jonas. My advice to you is to Let It Go, and as always, Abide.
