February 25th has arrived. It’s another big day in the Big Easy because Mardi Gras. Laissez les bons temps rouler or Let the good times roll. Sounds excellent to me. Wish I was there. I plan to watch the action from the comfort of my computer using the street cams. There’s other things to celebrate: It’s Pancake Day, Let’s All Eat Right Day, Pistol Patent Day, Pączki Day, National Clam Chowder Day and Chocolate Covered Peanuts Day. I’ll stick with Mardi Gras. Now to history. In 1751 the 1st performing monkey exhibited in New York City. Admission was 1 cent. In 1836 Samuel Colt patents the first multi-shot revolving-cylinder revolver. In 1836 P. T. Barnum exhibits an African American slave named Joice Heth, claiming she was the 161 year-old nursemaid to George Washington. Finally, on this day in 1957 Buddy Holly & Crickets record “That’ll Be the Day”. This is George Harrison’s birthday (1943). He said, “Love one another”. Pretty good philosophy. This is also the day that Tennessee Williams (Street Car Named Desire) passed on at the age of 71. He said, “Luck is believing you’re lucky.” I absolutely agree with that one. Now off to begin a brand new day. You’ll Abide now.
