We’ve made it to December 1st, 2020. That’s milepost 12.1.2020 on this highway we’re traveling. I have high hopes for this month. The dark clouds are starting to lighten up and soon we’ll be out of the rain and into the sunlight again. I look forward to sitting on a beach with my fellow Parrot Heads, listening to a trop rock band, shaking hands, giving and getting hugs. I see normal in my future. Soon is such a nice word. In the meantime we can focus on today because it’s National Pie Day which is obviously my pick from this list which also includes Civil Air Patrol Day, Eat A Red Apple Day (came in second), Rosa Parks Day, National Christmas Lights Day, Giving Tuesday and for you ladies, Wear A Dress Day. Now to the history part of this post. On this day in 1742 Empress Elisabeth orders expulsion of all Jews from Russia. In 1878 on this day the 1st White House telephone is installed. In 1903 on this day “The Great Train Robbery”, the 1st Western film, is released. This is the day in 1913 that Ford Motor Company institutes the world’s 1st moving assembly line. Finally, this is the day in 1955 that Rosa Parks is arrested for refusing to move to the back of a bus and give her seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama. This is the birthday of Woody Allen who said, “The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don’t have.” I’ll end this post with a quote from Rosa Parks “People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn’t true. I was not tired physically… No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.” I get it. Be safe, we don’t want to catch the virus when the vaccine is days away. Abide.
