It has become the 10th day of June, 2020. I was asleep when it happened. There are metaphors that try to capture time. Time flows, passes, time goes by. We aren’t on the bank of the river watching time, we’re in the river flowing with it. It carries us through this life. I see myself being on an inner tube, with a cooler filled with beer just floating along. Snap back to reality. Today is National Egg Roll Day, Alcoholics Anonymous Founders’ Day, Ballpoint Pen Day, National Black Cow Day, National Herb And Spice Day and National Iced Tea Day. I’ll go with the Egg Roll. Now to the history part of the post: On this day in 1720 Mrs Clements (England) markets first paste-style mustard. Ben Franklin performs his lighting kite flying experiment on this day in 1752. On this day in 1793 the 1st public zoo opens in Paris. This is the day in 1845 Andrew Jackson’s African Grey parrot “Poll” is removed from his funeral for swearing at The Hermitage, Tennessee. A funeral attendee recorded: “Before the sermon and while the crowd was gathering, a wicked parrot that was a household pet got excited and commenced swearing so loud and long as to disturb the people and had to be carried from the house”. Too funny. Today is Judy Garland’s birthday (1922). Judy said, “If I am a legend, then why am I so lonely?” This is also Spencer Tracy’s last day in 1967. He only made it to the age of 67.
