It’s now the 6th day of August 2020. No weather to worry about in the Atlantic. A nice day awaits in Central Florida. 9 people who made it to yesterday and lived near me, didn’t make it to today because of the virus. That is a reminder of the importance of wearing a mask and social distancing. Outside of that, life is good, and precious. Today is Balloons to Heaven Day, Cycle to Work Day, Farm Workers Appreciation Day, National Gossip Day, National Fresh Breath Day, Hiroshima Day, Wiggle Your Toes Day, National Root Beer Float Day and National IPA Day. IPA beer has the advantage of tasting just as bad warm as it does cold. I’ll go with a Root Beer Float. On this day in 1861 US Congress passes First Confiscation Act which authorized Union forces seizure of rebel property, and freed all slaves who fought with or worked for the Confederate military services. In 1890 on this day at Auburn Prison in New York, murderer William Kemmler becomes the 1st person to be executed by electric chair. On this day in 1914 Denis Patrick Dowd Jr. enlists in the French Foreign Legion and becomes the first American to fight in World War I. This is the day in 1945 that an atomic bomb is dropped on Hiroshima. This is the birthday (1809) of Alfred Tennyson, Poet Laureate of Great Britain. I’ll give you two of his quotes to remind you who wrote them: “Ours not to reason why, ours but to do and die.” and “‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” Today is also the birthday (1911) Lucille Ball who said, “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than regret the things I haven’t done.” I agree with Lucille. Be safe today. Wear the damn mask. Abide
