My calendar says it’s September 5th, 2021. Yesterday was an excellent day. I made some memories and I expect the same for today. Having two 10-year-old girls in our house for a couple of days to entertain is an extraordinary event. Reminds me of my daughter and her friends so many years ago. A truly wonderful time in my life. It’s International Day of Charity, National Be Late For Something Day, World Cheese Pizza Day, Pet Rock Day, National Shrink Day and National Samosa Day. I’ll celebrate with pizza, for lunch. On this day in 1750 a decree was issued in Prussia allowing for annual search of all Jewish homes for stolen or “doubtful” goods. This is the day in 1793 that the Reign of Terror in the French Revolution begins. At least 300,000 suspects were arrested; 17,000 were officially executed, and 10,000 died in prison or without trial. Revolutions are messy affairs. On this day in 1882 10,000 workers march in 1st Labor Day parade in NYC. This is the day in 1906 that St. Louis University quarterback Bradbury Robinson throws first legal forward pass in the history of American football for a TD. On this day in 1992, John Cage, a composer, music theorist, artist and philosopher died. John said, “I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas, I frightened of the old ones”. Me too John. This is the day in 1997 that Mother Teresa died. A remarkable woman. She said, “Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time and always start with the person nearest you” and “Helping hands are better than praying lips”. I like both of those. That’s it. Another day in the books. Abide.
