If 2020 were a book, today would be page 328 because that’s how many days its taken us to get to November 24th. If I were writing the cover, I’d call the book, “2020” a dark comedy. Yes, it’s perfectly ok to laugh at people instead of with them. The book does have a happy ending. The vaccines are on the way and right behind them, a return to normal. Today we have a short list of celebratory events. It’s Brownielocks Day which is about celebrating brunets. It’s also Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day, D. B. Cooper Day and my pick, National Sardine Day. I like Brunswick wild caught packed in spring water. Yummy and very good for you. I should eat them more often. The first historical footnote is that on November 24, 1835 the Texas Rangers, a mounted police force is authorized by Texas Provisional Government. On this day in 1859, Charles Darwin published “On the Origin of Species” laying the foundation for evolutionary biology. This is the day in 1949 that Syracuse Nationals beat Anderson Packers, 125-123 in 5 OTs. The Syracuse Nationals became the Philadelphia 76ers. The Anderson Packers only lasted one season and disbanded. Lastly, in 1971 this is the day that D. B. Cooper ransomed $200,000 and then jumps out of the plane, never to be seen again. Today is the birthday of Zachary Taylor, 12 President of these United States. He said, “If elected, I would not be the mere president of a party – I would endeavor to act independent of party domination and should feel bound to administer the government untrammeled by party schemes.” Sounds much like today’s politics. Today is Celebrate Your Unique Talents Day and the day that Freddie Mercury, Queen “Bohemian Rhapsody”, stopped living. What a talent he had. Freddie said, “I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me.” We do indeed. Stay safe. Better times ahead. Abide.
