It’s a brand new, never used, once in a lifetime Friday, January 12, 2024. What are we going to do with it? It’s a personal choice. My 1/12/2024 will be different from your 1/12/2024. This day is like a container waiting to be filled with our individual and collective experiences. I might be able to put a memory or two into it. That would be excellent. Maybe the Commission can help: It’s International Kiss a Ginger Day (redhead), Curried Chicken Day, Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day, National Hot Tea Day, National Marzipan Day, and Stick To Your New Year’s Resolution Day. Now to the way back machine: In 1773 the first public museum in north American colonies was established in Charlestown, SC. This is the day in 1803 that the US Senate authorized James Monroe and Robert Livingstone to negotiate the purchase of New Orleans from France. In 1906 on this date is the 1st time Dow Jones closes above 100. In 1915 the US House of Representatives rejects proposal to give women right to vote. In 1952 the University of Tennessee admits it’s 1st black student. in 1959, American record company Motown is founded by Berry Gordy Jr. as Tamla Records. This is the birthday (1628) of Charles Perrault, the French author and fairy tale writer (Tales of Mother Goose). He’s the person responsible for the term “Once upon a time”. This is also the day that Agatha Christie (1976) drew her last breath. Here’s a quote: “I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.” I couldn’t agree more. With that, I’ll start filling up my day with every good thing I can think of. Hope you do to. Abide
