Here we are. March 26th, 2020. I don’t expect my life will be any different than the 25th. I’ve a limited number of variations to consider: Rum or Vodka? Eggs or Pancakes? etc.. On the bright side, I’m still virus free. That’s the way I intend to stay. I hope all of you isolationists find something worthy of raising a glass to on this day: It’s National Make Up Your Own Holiday Day (National Rum Day?), National Spinach Day, National Solitude Day and Purple Day. I’ve had enough solitude so I’ll go with my own personal Rum Day. On this day in 1804, Congress orders removal of Indians east of Mississippi to Louisiana. What a rotten thing to do. This is the day in 1886 that the 1st cremation is carried out in England. This is a surprise because they were burning people at the stake for a long time. Moving on. In 1910 the US forbid immigration of criminals, anarchists, paupers & the sick. Finally, in 1926 the 1st lip-reading tournament held in America. This is the birthday (1874) of the poet, Robert Frost. He said, “Don’t ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up.” Sounds like good advice. This is the day in 1892 that Walk Whitman drew his last breath when pneumonia took him at the age of 72. He said, “I no doubt deserved my enemies, but I don’t believe I deserved my friends.” Now you have my post for today. Stay safe out there. This is a long way from over. Abide.
