It has become the 23rd day of June. I was asleep and didn’t hear it come. It’s forecast to be a typical summer day in Florida. I’m going to do my best to make this typical day as pleasant as possible. I’ve discovered that I can “sleep people for 30 days” on Facebook and that gives me a better chance of finding happiness each day. The list of celebratory events isn’t long today: Let It Go Day, National Hydration Day, National Pecan Sandies Day, Pink Flamingo Day, Public Service Day and National Pink Day. My pick of this litter is Let It Go Day. I want to achieve happiness which is impossible if I hold onto petty grievances. Better to let them go and move on. The wayback machine tells us that on this day in 1713 the French residents of Acadia are given one year to declare allegiance to Britain or leave Nova Scotia, Canada. Most didn’t and they ended up in Louisiana. Laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll). On this day in 1922 Walter Hagen becomes first American-born winner of the British Open Championship. This is the day in 1960 that the 1st contraceptive pill is made available for purchase in the U.S. And, this is the day in 1981 that the longest game in Professional Baseball was played between the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings which took 33 innings. This is the birthday (1912) of Alan Turing who was a British mathematician and computer scientist pioneer. He said, “A computer would deserve to be called intelligent if it could deceive a human into believing that it was human.” We’ve arrived at that place. On this day in 1995 Jonas Salk, American biologist who created the Polio vaccine, dies of heart failure at 80. He said, “The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more.” This is the person who ended the nightmare that was Polio and he gave the cure away. Very cool guy. So, my advice to you is to Let It Go, be safe and as always, Abide.
