We are now in the time/space of the 12th day of September 2020. This is the 1st time we’re here and we will never be here again. Since the Universe is expanding, nothing has ever been here before. In 100 years, no one will remember or care about what we did on this day. That’s a lot of freedom for us. We can do anything with it we want to with little long term consequences. The Commission has a long list of things we can celebrate: National Iguana Appreciation Day, National Day Of Encouragement, National Police Women Day, Programmers Day, Video Game Day, Aunt’s Day, German Language and my pick, National Chocolate Milkshake Day. The Iguana came second. On this day in 1755 Giacomo Casanova is sentenced to 5 years imprisonment in Venice without trial for affront to religion and common decency which means, he slept with the wrong wife. On this day in 1928 and hurricane hits Florida and kills 6,000. On this day in 1944, US troops enter Germany. This is the day in 1958 that the US Supreme Court orders the all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas to integrate. The 101st Airborne Division would escort the 9 black students into the school. Finally, on this day in 1978, the Situation comedy “Taxi” premieres on ABC. Today is J.L. Mencken’s birthday. He was a newspaperman and critic. He said, “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” I think there’s a lot of wisdom in that quote. This is the day Johnny Cash died in 2003 at the age of 71. Johnny said, “You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” That’s his way of saying, Move On. That’s enough for you to ponder today. Make it a good one. You only get one shot at it. Abide.
