This day is called April 14, 2023. You can do anything today because nothing you do matters in the long run. Do you know what anyone did on this date 100 years ago? No. That gives you the freedom to do pretty much anything you want to do except break the law or hurt someone. Have fun, procrastinate, do nothing, go to a dive bar and have one too many, eat two desserts, clean your house naked, etc. It doesn’t really matter in the long run. I used the dive bar because it’s National Dive Bar Day. It’s also Day of Silence, Ex-Spouse Day, International Moment of Laughter Day, Look Up at the Sky Day, National Dolphin Day, National Pecan Day, Pan American Day, and Reach as High as You Can Day.  I admit that it is possible to do something or participate in an event that is remembered. Let’s look at a few of those: On this day in 1818 the US Medical Corps was formed. On this day in 1828 Noah Webster registered his copyright for the first American Dictionary. This is the day in 1836 that Congress formed the Territory of Wisconsin. In 1841 on this day Edgar Allan Poe’s 1st detective story “Murders in Rue Morge” was published. This is the day in 1865 that Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theater. On this day in 1881 the famous Four Dead in Five Seconds gunfight took place in El Paso when Dallas Stoudenmire, the new sheriff (3 days on the job) killed 3 of the 4 men involved. If you google it, it’s an interesting story. Today’s dead person is Ramana Maharshi who was a Hindu philosopher that died on this day in 1950. He observed “Why should you trouble yourself about the future? You do not even properly know about the present. Take care of the present, the future will take care of itself.” “Unless one is happy, one cannot bestow happiness on others.” “Let what comes come, let what goes go.” Last one: “All that one gives to others one gives to one’s self. If this truth is understood, who will not give to others?” Abide.
