Welcome to April 20, 2023. The thought that just popped into my head is that we need to start today with a personal affirmation which is a short statement to give your self-esteem a push in the right direction. I searched on “personal affirmation” and one of the web sites I found has 25 examples: “I am allowed to feel good and to experience pleasure in life.” I like that one. I also like “Today I will do my best.” Maybe you should write your own in the comments to this post? Today is Chinese Language Day, Get to Know Your Customers Day, International Pizza Cake Day, Lima Bean Respect Day, National Ask an Atheist Day, National Cheddar Fries Day, National High Five Day, National Look Alike Day, and National Pineapple Upside-down Cake Day. Moving along: On this day in 1611 the 1st known performance of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” was performed in London. On this day in 1862 Louis Pasteur conducts the first pasteurization test (heat milk to eliminate pathogens and extend shelf life). On this day in 1887 George Bouton won the world’s 1st motor race on a steam-powered quadricycle. On this day in 1894 mine workers, 136,000 of them, went on strike for higher pay in Ohio. On this day in 1912 Tiger Stadium in Detroit opened. The Tigers beat Cleveland 6-5. On this day in 1918 Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron), shot down his 79th and 80th enemy planes. He will be shot down and die tomorrow. On this day in 1962 the New Orleans Citizens Company gives away 1-way rides to blacks moving North. On this day in 1976 George Harrison sung the “The Lumberjack Song” with Monty Python in NYC. I’ll wrap this post up with a lither note by using quotes from Benny Hill who passed on this day in 1992. Benny said, “Havre you noticed that all the people in favor of birth control are already born?” “Never play leapfrog with a unicorn.” “Do unto others, then run.”  I’ll wrap this up with a short poem by Benny: “Roses are reddish / Violets are bluish / If it weren’t for Christmas / We’d all be Jewish.” Abide.
