We have arrived at November 13th, 2021. It occurred to me early this morning, at 4:07 to be exact, that when I write this post, it’s the time each day that I adjust my attitude. Most people don’t have a ritual. They get out of bed and step into a routine. I think about what I’m going write to start my day. I count my blessings. The simple act of putting those words on paper or on my computer screen flips the switch to gratitude. It’s a good way to start my day. November 13th is Indian Pudding Day (corn meal, flour, milk sugar and cream), Actors Day, Kindness Day, Start A Rumor Day and Wine Tourism Day. I’ll celebrate Kindness Day by trying to be kind, today. Onto the history of what happened on 11/13 through the ages: On this day in 1789, Ben Franklin wrote “Nothing is certain except death and taxes”. On this day in 1839 Britain held the last running of the bulls at Stamford England, which had been held for the previous 700 years. In 1875 Harvard-Yale game is 1st college football contest with uniforms. What did they wear before this day? Finally, in 1965 Director Kenneth Tynan says the word “Fuck” on a live segment on the BBC. Today happens to be Robert Lewis Stevenson’s birthday (1850). His quotations are insightful. “A friend is a gift you give yourself”. “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant”. And “Wine is bottled poetry”. To wrap up this post, I suggest that you be kind to people today. That you reach out to your friends and this evening, raise a glass of wine and toast the excellent day you’ve just lived. Abide.
