We’re ending the time/space of March 2020. It has not been a pleasant journey. On this 27th day, the world is deep into a pandemic. I wasn’t all that worried about the others I’ve lived through. This one I am. So, I’m staying safe. Could be a lot worse. I’ll letting my facial hair grow. Probably be a full beard by the time this is over. Today we celebrate International Scribble Day, National Spanish Paella Day, People With The Name Joe Day and Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day such as “Take Your Tongue Our Of My Mouth Cause I’m Kissing You Goodbye” or “Drop Kick Me Jesus Through The Goal Posts Of Life.” This is the day in 1790 that the modern shoelace was patented in England by Harvey Kennedy. In 1912, this is the day that the 1st Japanese cherry blossom trees were planted in Washington, D.C. If you’ve never been there when they bloom, you’ve missed something special. Finally, this is the day in 1980 that Mt. St. Helens erupted. This is the birthday (1899) of the actress Gloria Swanson. In her time, she was one of the big names. She said, “Fame was thrilling only until it became grueling. Money was fun only until you ran out of things to buy.” This also happens to be the day that Dudley Moore died in 2002. He said, “The best car safety device is a rear-view mirror with a cop in it.” So true Dudley, so true. The news story that Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of England has the virus just broke. It’s another day of playing it safe for me. Abide.
