I always have the same feeling of anticipation each morning when I start writing this post. It feels like opening up a package from Amazon that I don’t remember ordering. What could it be? What is in January 21, 2020? Let’s see: It’s National Granola Bar Day, National Hugging Day, National Sweatpants Day, National New England Clam Chowder Day, Rid the World of Fad Diet and Gimmicks Day, Appreciate Squirrels Day and One Liner Day. Since it’s the middle of winter in Central Florida (lasts two days), I’ll go with chowder. Now to what happened back then: In 1793 Louis XVI of France is executed by the guillotine in Paris because he was the King when the people of France decided to end their monarchy and hold a revolution. In 1846 1st edition of Charles Dickens’ newspaper “The Daily News” is published. In 1880, the 1st US sewage disposal system is run separately from storm drains in Memphis, Tennessee. This is kind of a big deal. Until the 1930s, sewage and rain run off went through the same pipe to save money. Memphis was 50 years ahead of its time. In 1977 US President Jimmy Carter pardons almost all Vietnam War draft evaders. I wonder how many came back to the US from Canada? I know one who did. In 1987, B.B. Kind and Muddy Waters are induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Finally, in 1995 “Forrest Gump” wins the Golden Globe. This is Christian Dior’s birthday (1905) he said, “You can always wear black”. I agree. It’s also our daughter’s Sarah’s birthday and that’s a good reason to celebrate. This is the day in 1924 that Vladimir Lenin assumed room temperature. He is the person that said, “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.” Julius Caesar said, “Men in general are quick to believe that which they wish to be true.” Herein lies today’s problem. The solution is “find the truth”. Happy Birthday Sarah. Abide.
