It’s now September 5, 2020 and we’re headed into the end of summer holiday weekend. I’m sure the virus is happy about that. I’m ready to get vaccinated. I hope that very soon this is nothing but a not so fond memory. I’m also grateful that I get to live this day. It’s International Bacon Day, International Day of Charity, National Be Late For Something Day, World Cheese Pizza Day, National Hummingbird Day, Kentucky Derby Day, National Tailgating Day and National Beard Day. I’ll celebrate bacon. I probably should celebrate beard day since I have let it grow for the last 6 months. I’m somewhere between Santa Claus and ZZ Top. This is the day in 1793 that the Reign of Terror in the French Revolution begins. At least 300,000 suspects were arrested; 17,000 were officially executed, and 10,000 died in prison or without trial. On this day in 1882 10,000 workers march in 1st Labor Day parade in NYC. This is the day in 1906 that St. Louis University quarterback Bradbury Robinson throws first legal forward pass in the history of American football for a TD. On this day in 1966, Jerry Lewis holds his first telethon raising $1 million dollars for MS. Today is the birthday of Louis the XIV, Kind of France. Often referred to as the Sun King. He said, “Every time I appoint someone to a vacant position, I make a hundred unhappy and one ungrateful.” This is also the day in 1877 that Crazy Horse, last of the Sioux War Chiefs died at the age of 37. He said, “Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children.” Now I will start living this brand new day. Stay safe and wear the mask. Abide.
