We have arrived at the time/space known as August 21, 2022. I’ve already done a brief review of the headlines while my coffee brewed. Most of it was negative news designed to make me angry and resentful.  Since I can control what I think about, the reports of the world’s chaos don’t bother me. Being an ostrich (head in the sand) may not be a bad thing. Today we have a short list of celebratory events. It’s National Brazilian Blowout Day (something about women’s hair), National Senior Citizens Day, National Spumoni Day, and Poet’s Day. Now to history: On this day in 1321 160 Jews of Chincon France were burned at the stake. They were accused of poisoning the wells in an alleged conspiracy with the lepers. On this day in 1831 former slave Nat Turner lead an uprising against slavery. It didn’t work out well for Nat. He was hung along with 56 other who participated. On this day in 1897 the first Oldsmobile was manufactured by Olds Motor Vehicle Co. in Lansing MI. On this day in 1959 Hawaii became the 50th state. This is the day in 1961 that Patsy Cline recorded the then-struggling songwriter Wille Nelson’s song “Crazy” in Nashville Tennessee. The first dead person’s advice for today is the legendary Wilt Chamberlain who said, “Everything is habit-forming, so make sure what you do is what you want to be doing.” Next is Kenny Rogers who believed that “Youth is a frame of mind. If you get out there and enjoy it, you can have it at any time of your life.” The last dead person for today is the English singer songwriter Joe Strummer who observed “Everyone has got to realize you can’t hold onto the past if you want any future” and “When you blame yourself, you learn from it. If you blame someone else, you don’t learn nothing, cause hey, it’s not your fault, it’s his fault.” That’s enough for this post. Abide.
