December 27th, 2022 is now here. It’s still cold in Florida. Soon, like 2022, it will be only a memory. Think of something you’re thankful for and then we’ll get started on this little trip we make each day. It’s Make Cut Out Snowflakes Day, National Fruitcake Day, and Visit the Zoo Day. Not a good list for me. Now some history: On day in 1512 the Spanish Crown issued the Laws of Burgos to govern the conduct of settlers conduct toward the native population in the New World. It outlawed slavery among other things. On this day in 1845 Ether was 1st used in childbirth in the US. On this day in 1900 Carrie Nation smashed up the bar at the Carey Hotel in Wichita, Kansas. On this day in 1915 the US Iron and Steel workers began a 3-week strike in Ohio for an 8-hour workday. They won. This is the day in 1932 that the Radio City Music Hall opened in NYC. This is the day in 1964 of the 1st appearance of The Supremes on the “The Ed Sullivan Show”. On this day in 1978 Spain became a democracy after 40 years of dictatorship. Today’s first dead person is Charles Lamb who was an English poet who said, “I’d like to grow very old as slowly as possible”. Me too Mr. Lamb. Next, we have Benazir Bhutto who was the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the first women elected to head a democracy in a Muslim country. She said, “What is not recorded in not remembered” and “Every dictator uses religion as a prop to keep himself in power.” Last for today is the actress, Marlene Dietrich. She said, “What a man notices first about a woman is whether she notices him.” “Darling, the legs aren’t so beautiful, I just know what to do with them.” “Careful grooming may take twenty years off a woman’s age, but you can’t fool a flight of stairs.” Enough for this day. Abide.
