This day is called October 8th, 2023. I wish I could start this day’s post with something profound. Something that would improve your life. All I can suggest is that if you make an effort to be kind to everyone today, you will probably have a good day. Karma is real. This is Alvin C. York Day, American Touch Tag Day, Father-Daughter Day, International Lesbian Day, National Fluffernutter Day, National Hydrogen and Fuell Cell Day, National Pierogi Day, National Salmon Day, and World Octopus Day. I will raise a glass to Father-Daughter Day. Now some history: On this day in 1480 the army of the Khan of the Great Horde met the army of Ivan III, the Grand Prince of Russia at the Ugra River. The Mongols were on one side and the Russians on the other. It was a standoff and finally the Great Khan ordered a retreat and the Horde went their separate ways and disappeared. On this day in 1775 Officers in the Continental Army decided to bar slaves and free blacks from enlisting. On this day in 1871 the Great Chicago Fire killed 300 people and destroyed over 4 square miles of buildings. This is the day in 1918 that American soldier Alvin York single-handedly attacks a German gun nest, killing 25 and capturing 132 Germans. The movie, “Sergeant York” starring Gary Cooper is one of my favorite war movies. On this day in 1971 John Lennon released “Imagine”. This is the day in 2004 that Martha Stewart began a 5-month incarceration for inside trading and obstruction of justice. I’m going to go to Plan B today for quotes because I can’t find anyone I like who died or was born on this day. I’ll provide quotes on the subject of Karma. Kisha said, “I believe in karma, and I believe if you put out positive vibes to everybody, that’s all you’re going to get back.” Naval Ravikant said, “Figure out what you’re good at and start helping other people with it; give it away. Pay it forward. Karma sort of works because people are very consistent. On a long enough timescale, you will attract what you project.” Megan Fox said, “I try to live with the idea that karma is a very real thing. So, I put out what I want to get back.” Me too Megan. Abide.
