I woke up in the time/space of September 22, 2021. It’s the first day of Fall. Today in Central Florida will be in the high 80s instead of the lower 90s and that works fine for me. It’s also Dear Diary Day, International Day Of Radiant Peace Day, National Girls Night In Day, National Hobbit Day, National Ice Cream Cone Day, National White Chocolate Day and Proposal Day. I’ll go with the Ice Cream Cone because I see one of those in my near future. Now let’s peek through the curtain of time. On this day in 1692 the last 8 people were hanged for witchcraft in the US, 19 hanged overall. In 1699 the people of Rotterdam went on strike because of the high cost of butter. This is the day in 1789 that the US Congress passed an act requiring the first Postmaster General to report to the President through the Secretary of the Treasury. This is still the way it works. In 1862 on this date, President Lincoln announced that he would free all of the slaves in America on January 1st, 1863. From 1800 to 1862, slavery was America’s largest financial asset. On this date in 1955 Hurricane Janet, killed 500 people in the Caribbean. Now let’s find a couple of quotes from people long gone. I’m going to end this post with a quote from Dogen, a Buddhist priest, writer, poet, and philosopher who died in 1253. The following is his description of what a “buddha” is and what Buddhism is all about. “There is a simple way to become buddha: When you refrain from unwholesome actions, are not attached to birth and death, and are compassionate toward all sentient beings, respectful to seniors and kind to juniors not excluding or desiring anything, with no designing thoughts or worries you will be called a buddha. Do not seek anything else.” I hope you now know a little more than you did a few minutes ago. Now go out and have some fun. Life is short. Play hard and be sure to Abide.
